Overview
Minot served as a major regional trading post and rail connection point for Palmer Stadum and his contemporaries throughout the 20th century.
Known as the "Magic City" due to its rapid growth as a railroad town in the late 1880s, Minot was a vital link on the Great Northern Railway. For the Stadum family living in Benson County and Rugby, Minot represented the larger urban hub for machinery, hospital visits, and westbound rail travel across the northern tier of North Dakota.
