Kathy was born on June 30, 1948. She was Rodney Stadum's college sweetheart and first wife. Following Rodney's enlistment in the United States Air Force, they lived in Cambridge, Ohio, where they raised their three children: Amy (b. 1972), Kristin (b. 1975), and Scott (b. 1977).

Later in life, Kathy married Howard Bode and settled in Faribault, Minnesota.
