Peder was born on July 2, 1835, in Gran, Hadeland, Norway. He was the son of Petter Pederson Norby and grandson of Petter Hanson Stadum. According to the family kinship report, he lived in the agricultural region of Gran before migrating to Benson County, North Dakota, with other family members.

His son, Johannes (John) Pedersen Stadum, was born in Norway in 1876 and also migrated to North Dakota. Peder spent his final years in the Esmond area of Benson County, where he passed away in 1913 at the age of 78, anchoring the family’s first graves in Saint Petri Cemetery.
