After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 2001, Scott Stadum settled in Lakeville — a suburban city in Dakota County about 25 miles south of downtown Minneapolis along Interstate 35. The stay was transitional by design, a two-year stretch between the close of his college years in Ohio and the opening of his Peace Corps service in South America.
Lakeville sits within the broad Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area, offering the amenities of a growing suburb while remaining connected to the culture and economy of the Twin Cities. For Scott, it served as a base of operations as he prepared for what would come next: departure for Georgetown, Guyana, and the Peace Corps in 2003.
Though short-lived, the Lakeville years represent a meaningful hinge point in the Stadum family record — the moment the midwest stayed home while one of its own set off for something far beyond the horizon.
