From 2008 to 2010, Scott Stadum lived in Buenos Aires and worked for Idealist.org, a platform connecting nonprofits, volunteers, and social-impact careers across Latin America and the world. His work focused on regional digital advocacy — helping civil-society organizations in South America build their online presence and reach.
The Buenos Aires chapter came after Scott's posting to Tbilisi, Georgia with Transparency International, where he had worked on anti-corruption and civic accountability efforts. Together the two postings represent a sustained period of international public-service work that took him far from the North Dakota plains where the family story began.
Buenos Aires is a city of European architecture and Latin American energy — wide boulevards, dense neighborhoods, tango in the streets of San Telmo, the painted houses of La Boca. Scott's time here was a professional chapter, but also a two-year immersion in a city that bears no direct trace in the Stadum family's prior history. He was the first member of the family to make a home in South America.
