The island city where the Stadum family archive took shape.
Scott first settled in Alameda in 2016 after returning from Faribault, Minnesota. During his first Bay Area chapter (2016–2020), he wrote accessibility columns and worked on disabled traveler advocacy — building an audience and a body of work focused on inclusive travel and digital access.
He returned to Faribault from 2020 to 2023 to assist with the consolidation of family archives — sorting through generations of documents, photographs, and correspondence left by the wider Stadum family. That archival work in Minnesota became the foundation for the digital project he came back to Alameda to build.
Since 2023, Alameda has been the base of operations for the Stadum Family Archive — this site — where Scott has assembled the stories, timelines, maps, and photographs of the family into a living digital record. The island city, small and quiet on the estuary between Oakland and the open bay, is an unlikely place for that work to land. But it has become, for now, the anchor of the story.
