During the height of the Vietnam War, Rodney Stadum served in the United States Air Force, playing a vital support role in communication and operations.

From 1970 to 1972, Rodney was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, a critical strategic hub for USAF operations in Southeast Asia. This period provided him with international exposure and unique life experiences during a turbulent global conflict.

Upon returning to the United States in 1972, he was stationed at Beale Air Force Base near Yuba City, California. It was during this assignment at Beale AFB that his daughter Amy was born in February 1972. Rodney completed his active duty service in 1973, transitioning back to civilian life and pursuing his academic career in physics.
